Adam MacDonald has been the Director of Sky One for 4 years now – under his stewardship the channel has enjoyed huge success with a record breaking run of UK drama commissions, the primary position in US Superhero action adventure and as innovator and leader in fresh, funny entertainment notably A League of Their Own, Karl Pilkington and Micky Flanagan. The channel has seen its last seven consecutive brand new UK dramas launch to over 1 million viewers, seen its most successful UK drama series in Stan Lee’s Lucky Man as well as its most successful UK drama mini-series in Delicious. The first A league of Their Own Road Trip posted the largest ever audience the franchise has seen in its 12 series run and the channel recently enjoyed its best ever Christmas schedule. Adam also runs Sky Living and oversees Sky Free To Air Channels Pick, Challenge and Real Lives.
Previously, Adam was VP of Programming, A+E Networks UK – a joint venture of A+E Networks and BskyB – responsible for programming strategy and production for HISTORY, Crime & Investigation Network, BIO and Military HISTORY channels in the UK, Africa, Middle East, and other key European territories. During his time there, ratings at HISTORY increased by 75% and across the A+E portfolio of channels by 25% over two years. Prior to that, MacDonald was Creative Director, IWC Media, executive producing Iron Chef UK for Channel 4 and Wreck or Ready for BBC One. MacDonald has held senior posts across the broadcasters including Controller of Daytime and Digital Factual at ITV where he oversaw This Morning and Loose Women. He also commissioned Deal or No Deal, Come Dine With Me and Coach Trip as Head of Daytime at Channel 4, where he saw share increase by over 30%. Prior to this, MacDonald was Head of Scheduling at the BBC where he began his career.
