Controller, BBC Three

Damian has responsibility for reinventing the BBC’s youth brand after it became the first TV channel in the world to move online in February 2016. This includes strategy, product development and all commissioning across Drama, Comedy, Documentaries and Current Affairs in long and short form video and editorial content. Damian joined the BBC in 1994 holding various roles in BBC Daytime, BBC One, as acting Controller of BBC Three and then Controller of CBBC – where he was responsible for TV and online commissioning. This period saw record audiences and awards including the BAFTA for Channel of the Year in 2012. Damian joined Channel 4 in 2012 as Head of Features and Factual Formats before returning to the BBC in 2013 as Controller of Daytime and Early Peak, which included responsibility for The One Show. In December 2014 Damian was appointed controller of BBC Three and tasked with reinventing the BBC’s offer for young people. Recent BBC Three commissions include Fleabag, Thirteen, Reggie Yates The Insider, Murder in Succesville, Drugs Map of Britain and a slate of new form content including Things Not To Say and #HoodDocumentary. @damiankavanaghwww.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree
