Creative Director, Denki; former Creative Director, Grand Theft Auto 1 & 2
Gary Penn is a founding father of games journalism. His work on seminal magazines such as Zzap!64 and The One in the Golden Age of computer and video gaming set an insightful, incisive and creative benchmark. He continued to inspire, inform and entertain through many other leading publications, including Amiga Power, Edge, PC Format, PC Gamer and Sonic the Comic. In 1991 Gary spread his wings to not only write authoritatively about games but to write for them - and ended up doing much more besides: producing, directing, designing and even providing distinctive vocals. Among the dozens of published titles in his portfolio we find Frontier, Grand Theft Auto, Space Station Silicon Valley, Denki Blocks!, Crackdown, Quarrel, Juggle!, Big Cup Cricket and Save the Day. More recently he's been doing his thing on Crackdown 3 but is now focused on an untitled world-building gaming mélange featuring robots you make and teach. In 2007, Gary was uncharacteristically lost for words when the games industry honoured his significance by presenting him with the first ever Games Media Legend award.
