More than a century after it sank, the Titanic still captures our collective imagination.

Upcoming BBC network series, Titanic Sinks Tonight is an exciting dramatized documentary detailing the sinking of the ‘world’s most famous ship’ in real time.

 

The four part landmark series produced by Stellify Media for BBC Factual and BBC Northern Ireland relives the Titanic story through the experiences and personal testimony of the passengers and crew who were onboard.

This session dives into the cutting edge production processes deployed, with some of the production team who made it – exploring how new tech, narrative techniques and creative collaboration can shape the way audiences now experience the past. From virtual reconstruction and emotionally driven scripting, our panel reveal how innovation is transforming this genre, bringing humanity and urgency to this compelling story.

Kieran Doherty

CEO and Co-Founder, Stellify
Kieran Doherty is a Northern Irish writer, TV format creator, Executive Producer and Public Speaker. He is also the Joint Managing Director of Stellify Media, alongside his creative and business partner, Matthew Worthy. Doherty & Worthy have co-created multiple entertainment formats - including the international formats Secret Fortune and Take The Money and Run - while working for UK independent production company Wild Rover Productions. In 2014 Doherty & Worthy launched the production company Stellify Media as a joint venture with Sony Pictures Television. Stellify Media is best known for successfully rebooting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? with Jeremy Clarkson for ITV, and Blind Date with Paul O'Grady for Channel 5. Stellify have also created several award-winning formats such as Beauty Queen & Single for BBC Northern Ireland, Flinch for Netflix, and Celebrity Snoop Dogs for Channel 4. Previously Chair of The RTS NI and Chair of The RTS NI TV Awards, Kieran also served two terms as the PACT Director for Northern Ireland. He is also a founding member of the Media Therapy Group, the largest media networking group in Ireland.

Rob Carlisle

Art Director, Poli Productions
Digital Innovator, Digital Manufacture, Creative Supervisor and Art Director with 30 years of international experience in the global film industry, specializing in art department design, concept art, and fabrication. Former owner of CFX Productions, South Africa’s go-to fabrication company for Hollywood productions. Skilled in VFX, props, prosthetics, animatronics, set construction, and digital concept design across documentaries, features, and commercials. In recent years Rob has been installing (and providing training for) Digital Manufacturing Workflows leveraging emerging eManufacturing Technologies. Currently Rob is working with Poli Productions in Northern Ireland upgrading their plant and production pipeline while working with the teams at Studio Ulster and Northern Ireland Screen to develop innovative new technologies and workflows aimed at improving the adoption of emerging technologies. Rob was Creative Supervisor on the LED Volume Production of BBC’s DocuDrama, “Titanic Sinks Tonight”

Adam Smyth (Chair)

Adam Smyth is  Director of BBC Northern Ireland. He has lead editorial responsibility for BBC services and output in Northern Ireland, which includes news and current affairs, BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle, online and digital services and television programmes for local and UK-wide audiences. Adam has previously held the positions of Head of BBC News NI and Editor of Radio Current Affairs and Digital News. He has been with the BBC for 30 years, having first been appointed as a regional news trainee for BBC Northern Ireland in 1995. 

Simon Young

Head of History, BBC Unscripted Commissioning
Simon Young is currently the Head of History at the BBC, overseeing programmes ranging from forthcoming series Titanic Sinks Tonight and the critically acclaimed sports-documentary Linford, to box-set series such as D-Day: The Unheard Tapes and The Zelensky Story, and returning series such as A House Through Time and Who Do You Think You Are?
